Peter and Paul's Fortress
The day when the first stone of the fortress was laid is considered to be the date of the city foundation. Peter and Paul`s fortress is the birthplace and the most historical place of the city. Old stones, royal tombs, secret prison and lots of legends around.
One of the most remarkable traditions is a blank gunshot from Naryshkin Bastion of the fortress every day at 12 o'clock.
Peter and Paul`s cathedral is the first basilica and the sepulcher for all our emperors and empresses. We can also visit the most severe prison of the Russian empire. Luckily now this is only a museum.
